Anna Marie Baalke
(1883 - 1974)

Anna Marie Baalke was born 10 March 1883 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, daughter of Johann H. Baalke and Maria Dorothea Blum.

She married William Kleist 25 April 1903 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F. Wollbrecht, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan. Witnesses were Jacob Kleist [the groom's brother] and Lulu Baalke [the bride's sister].

William Kleist was born 17 November 1882 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin, son of Adam Kleist and Barbara Urban. He was employed as a deliveryman for Wolf's Laundry and Dry Cleaners.

William and Anna Kleist were the parents of three children:

1) Hulda Hedwig Barbara Kleist. Born 26 November 1903 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Married, 1936, William Edward Barrett. Died 29 January 1973 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
2) Dorathea Elizabeth Bertha Kleist. Born 23 October 1906 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Married Charles Nicholas Conrardy.
3) William Frank Kleist. Born 13 September 1913 at Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Married, 1936, Margaret Hoeft.

The Kleists attended Trinity Lutheran Church and later St. Andrew Lutheran Church, both in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They later joined St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church, which in 1957 (with the merger of the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church) became St. John United Church of Christ. Anna was a charter member of St. John's Women's Guild.

Anna was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, where she held several offices, and of the Elm Rebecca Lodge 38.

William Kleist died 24 February 1941 at home, 1607 Martin Avenue, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was buried 26 February at Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Anna Kleist died 28 October 1974 at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The St. John Women's Guild conducted memorial services 29 October at Nickel's Funeral Home, Sheboygan.The funeral was held 30 October at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating. She was buried at Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
